Black Volume

redefining career, one masterpiece at a time

A Year in Review, 2025

They say every event is your chance to shine, to gather the people who support you, and it is one step closer to your dreams. We say, every event is an opportunity to learn, trip over on the floor, and grow the community towards achieving each and everyone’s dreams. Together.

In 2025, we played and moved forward in the creative scene. From book launches to intimate community gatherings and major convention appearances, the year was defined by a commitment to “redefining careers, one masterpiece at a time” but with a heavy twist of PLAY.

Here is a look back at how we rolled 2025 through a rollercoaster ride.

A Fiery Start

The year ignited in February with the official book launch of The Fiery Champion: Embers. As one of the cornerstone titles of the Black Volume roster, Embers set the tone for the year—bold, imaginative, and deeply resonant with fans of epic storytelling. The launch wasn’t just a release; it was a celebration of the craftsmanship that goes into every Black Volume publication.

The 1st Brunch Club

In July, we pivoted from the page to the community with the inauguration of The Brunch Club held at Hiraya Cafe located at Casa Vallejo, Upper Session Road. This first-ever gathering served as a unique space for artists and enthusiasts to connect over food and shared passions. By blending a relaxed brunch atmosphere with creative networking, Black Volume proved that building a brand is as much about the people as it is about the products.

GABTAP Comics Hits the Shelves

The summer heat continued into August with the public release of Gabtap Comics #1. After months of anticipation, the release was met with enthusiasm from the indie comics community, further diversifying the Black Volume portfolio.

The Chronicles of Tyler Harrison

September saw the arrival of the highly anticipated Tyler Harrison book. Emerging as a standout title on the shelves, this release showcased Black Volume’s ability to nurture distinct authorial voices. Whether through digital platforms or physical bookstores, Tyler Harrison’s debut became a must-read for the autumn season.

First Official Appearance in Public as a Team

We brought the whole gang to the 6th North Hobby Expo in October! Surrounded by geeks, gamers, and collectors, we were able to encounter varied creatives that we are currently building bridges with. The expo was a highlight for the brand, allowing for face-to-face interactions with fans and solidifying our presence in the regional hobby circuit.

Let’s not forget, October was also that time of the year when we met new writers and got close with more artists! Plus, it is the first ever workshop by Black Volume, spearheaded by the Duke, at the Baguio Public Library.

A Grand Finale at BGC Art Mart

To close out the year, we set up shop at the BGC Art Mart at the Alveo Central Plaza. Amidst the festive holiday spirit of Bonifacio Global City, we showcased the full 2025 lineup—Duke’s Fiery Champion: Embers, Gabtap Comics by Jape Garr, The Chronicles of Tyler Harrison and Twin Switch by Nico Sarmiento, cutesy crochet crafts by Babayaga Stash, and Flunky’s vibrant and detailed illustrations. It was the perfect ending to a year of growth, placing indie creators at the heart of one of the country’s premier art hubs.

We know 2026 will be another year of shenanigans, bumpy roads, and a lot of mixed emotions scattered everywhere–the industry is indeed a giant drama ball in a dramatic world. It has its chaos, misunderstandings and meanderings that our day jobs can bring. But such is life when you’re starting, and it can get worse by the day if not every month. But then again…

Black Volume is a growing team of colorful personalities. We have each other’s backs. We may not be too inclined with one another’s realities, but we are here. And we know that each one of us grows individually and as a group. And we promise to bring you more drama, more books, more art, more darkness, but definitely, more FUN!

A few things to look forward to:

  1. Black Volume’s Launch Party is a Creative Retreat for creative individuals and groups.
  2. Flunky’s Solo Show is something you should not miss. We are all dying to see what’s up his sleeve for his subtle and humble presence in the team for 2025.
  3. Gabtap’s new book is just around the corner, waiting for that AHA! Moment for when to go live.
  4. Black Volume’s online streams where we talk about art, books, hobbies, music, food, and life is in progress. Nico and the Duke will be two of the main players in this arena.
  5. One of our promising authors will be out and about! His name starts with L, and we’re preparing his first public appearance as part of Black Volume right now.

If you’re up for this, you can join us here.
